AMITABH BACHAN 

Son of well known poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan 

born 11 October 1942.
 He first gained popularity in the early 1970s as the "angry young man" of Hindi cinema
. 
He completed his education from Uttar Pradesh and moved to Bombay to find work as a film star, in vain though, as film-makers preferred someone with a fairer skin, and he was not quite fair enough. But they did use one of his other assets - his deep baritone voice - which was used for narration and background commentary. He was successful in being cast in Saat Hindustani. 

He got his break in Bollywood after a letter of introduction from the then Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi, as he was a friend of her son, Rajiv Gandhi. This is how Amitabh made an entry in Bollywood, starting with Zanjeer, co-starred with his future wife Jaya Bhaduri, and since then there has been no looking back.

Bachchan has won many major awards in his career, including three National Film Awards as Best Actor (a record he shares with Kamal Hassan and Mammootty), a number of awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies and fourteen Filmfare Awards.

 He is the most-nominated performer in any major acting category at Filmfare, with 39 nominations overall. In addition to acting, Bachchan has worked as a playback singer, film producer and television presenter. He also had a stint in politics in the 1980s. 

TheGovernment of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1984 and the Padma Bhushan in 2001 for his contributions towards the arts.

It is with this last name that Amitabh debuted in films, and, for all public purposes, it has become the surname of all members of his family. Bachchan's father died in 2003 and his mother in 2007.

Amitabh - Rekha The unforgettable co stars...

     Rekha one of the Darlings of Bollywood film industry co starred with Amitabh Bachan in many films, they were loved and admired by their fans, their closeness anticipated in all their films.The closeness brought rumours in the Indian Film world, rumour with can be defined as "often a mixture of truth and untruth".

Amitabh and Rekha's much-talked about love story always remained a mystery as both the actors never accepted it in public. While the two themselves have said very little, everyone else seems more than certain of the affair.
 But real time facts associated with rumours circulated around; during the shoots of Ganga Ki Saugandh, Amitabh Bachan reportedly lost his temper on a co-actor who was misbehaving with Rekha. After this, their affair came in the lime-light and grabbed the media attention. The gossip mills started churning out stories of Rekha-Amitabh's affair. They even made headlines saying that Rekha and Amitabh have got secretly married. 

Silsila was Amitabh and Rekha's last film together. It is believed that the real life story was shot in reel and it was sort of a coup for Yash Chopra who managed the casting of Amitabh, Jaya and Rekha. The film portrays the love triangle between the characters of Amitabh, Jaya and Rekha in the film. In an exclusive BBC interview, Yash Chopra admitted that the affair was definitely going strong before they began filming Silsila, which co-incidentally mirrored the real life drama. Chopra said, "I was always on tenterhooks and scared (during Silsila) because it was real life coming into reel life. Jaya is his wife and Rekha is his girlfriend and the same story is going on (in real life). Anything could have happened because they are working together."

In an interview given to Filmfare magazine in 1984, Rekha spoke about Amitabh’s denial of their relationship. She said, "Why should he have not done it? He did it to protect his image, his family, his children. Why should the public know of my love for him or his love for me? I love him and he loves me- that’s it! If he’d reacted that ways towards me in private, I would have been very disappointed.” She further added, “Mr. Bachchan is still old-fashioned. He doesn’t want to hurt anybody so why hurt his wife?”

But never he the Big B anywhere acknowledged Rekha's portrayal of their Love story.
